Cape May - According to the county, this is the breakdown of tourism revenue. $1.536 billion - food and beverage, $1.28 billion - retail, $771.4 million - recreation, $2.196 billion - second home rentals. First I want to point out that there is nothing in there about hotels/motels and maybe they are under 2nd home rentals? Regardless, 2nd home owners aren't going to leave their money train because their feelings were hurt. The ones who don't rent out could sell easily, so no, we don't "need" you for your property taxes. We do welcome you as we welcome anyone.
