Cape May Point - Just how much is the American taxpayer being charged for Trump's trips to Florida, Trump's sons' business trips, and I just read that we paid for a ski trip to Aspen? Why are we responsible for business trips and vacations for the whole family when they are all well past the age of 25? Does anyone control the purse strings for the president and his family?

A Time Money article March 16 states, "CBS News reports American taxpayers spend more than $3 million each time Trump heads to the 'Winter White House.' But that's only part of the price of Trump's weekend getaways. Residents in Palm Beach have been hit with additional costs to protect the president, to the tune of more than $1 million since Trump was elected." An NPR article March 6 states, "Since Donald Trump became president, his sons' business travel has became much more complicated and expensive, especially when the travel is overseas, says Brendan Doherty, a U.S. Naval Academy professor who has tracked presidential travel for more than a decade. He says the president's sons are guaranteed round-the-clock Secret Service protection. Overseas trips usually involve coordination with local security forces, and often, U.S. embassies. ... It's very difficult to get hard figures for the costs for hotels, travel and overtime, Doherty says, especially for the Secret Service. A spokesman for the Secret Service, Joe Casey, said it doesn't talk about its protection operations. The Washington Post estimates that Eric Trump's Uruguay trip cost taxpayers $97,830 in hotel bills alone." A CNN article March 23 states, "While President Donald Trump makes his hard sell on health care at the White House, much of his family are enjoying some quality time on the ski slopes of Aspen, Colorado. ... It's unclear how much the vacation is costing taxpayers, as the family travels with a bevy of Secret Service agents -- some of whom even accompanied their protectees on the ski slopes. The Aspen Times reported that the Secret Service 'signed a contract last week for more than $12,000 with the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club for rental ski equipment and clothing.' CNN was unable to independently verify that number through the Federal Procurement Data System."
