To the person who complained about paying an admission to the Museum of Cape May County: It is no longer owned or operated by the county which dropped all financial support. The museum is a free-standing, non-profit organization. It's a shame the county government cannot help fund the keeper of the historic treasures in one of the most historic counties in the state.
Moderator's Note: "The Co. Library has been paying salaries for the Museum," Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton stated in an email. "They have been offered $50,000 per year for the next three years to give them time to become self-sufficient. Also, the library pays the utilities, approximately $16,000 per year. The County Facilities and Services Dept. provides the maintenance inside and outside, plus Management Information Services Dept. computer and phone support. The library recently paid $7,000 in wages due from 2014. Again, they are a free-standing, self-appointing agency that the county has no control over. We have been very supportive for many years."
