I hope the city compares the costs of having Public Works employees do projects like rehabbing the rest rooms on the promenade at Second Avenue versus using independent contractors. It seems to me that qualified contractors are far more experienced and efficient in this kind of work, and they don't require the loaded rates of city employees, which include: sick pay, vacation, medical, and pension costs. The Taxpayers Association should look into these decisions.
