Fox has taken political silliness to the next level in repeats of a video showing Obama saluting a marine while holding a latte. As a former drill instructor, I will tell you there is no protocol requiring the president, or any civilian, to return a salute. Even Eisenhower, a five star general, as president, never, ever saluted servicemen. Reagan apparently was allowed to start this practice, and as a drill sergeant, I can say it was ill-advised.
