There are several skills a person needs to be a successful moderator. The first would be fairness, because if the moderator is not fair, the opinions being moderated might seem to represent a larger percentage of agreement, or disagreement than actually exists. The second would be an open mind. Just because a moderator has not heard a fact or new idea, does not mean that it does not exist. Now this third, and most important quality a moderator must possess is a thorough grasp of the subject matter. This involves research, knowledge, and finding fair and truthful info that will help in accuracy
