Cape May County

As the House moves its budget proposal forward drastically cutting Medicaid, we should think about how that impacts Cape May County. With approx 94,000 people, there are 11,850 (12.6%) people in CMCo on Medicaid. Another 21.8% have Medicare - or 20,500. The vast majority are elderly and children. Yet, Congressman Van Drew, who said he had problems with those cuts, voted YES on the bill cutting Medicaid after Trump called him (reported on CNN) and will most likely vote yes on the final budget bill cutting so many of his own constituents - our neighbors - out of healthcare.

Moderator's Note: Per a statement issued by Congressman Van Drew on Feb. 25: "Unfortunately, there has been some misinformation circulating about this budget resolution. The facts are simple: the resolution does not cut Medicare benefits, Social Security is fully protected, and there are no cuts to Medicaid."
