Colorado is trying to use is an old confederate law dating back to the end of the Civil War. The confederacy (Southern Democrats) were the original insurrectionists (fighting for the right to own slaves) against the U.S. Government Union forces focused on ending slavery. This law kept democratic insurrectionists from office, but gave exemptions for those that saw the light, as Republicans wanted the people to decide who serves, not them. Know your history and law.
