All those clamoring about illegal aliens just “showing up at the border”, well, place the blame where it belongs, Congress. It is Congress that wrote the law that an immigrant must be on “US soil, or at a port of entry” in order to apply for asylum. It cannot be done any other way. So, if the simple answer is to change the law so that potential immigrants seeking asylum could simply apply in their home country, at the US embassy, why can’t they get it done? But perhaps that is the problem; if it’s simple, Congress can’t seem to function, not without “riders and special interest add-ons”.
