Hard to believe Lower Township Officer Douglass lost his life 22

Cape May Beach - Hard to believe Lower Township Officer Douglass lost his life 22 years ago already. Seems only yesterday, a day or two before he was murdered, that I heard a shot behind my house abutting the old Ponder Lodge property. Went out on my back deck and saw a police officer's hat just over the top of my fence, yelling, "Is there a problem officer?" His reply was, "Officer Douglas here. I saw a rabid skunk trying to dig under your fence to enter your yard." I said, "Did you get him?" and he replied, "Yes I did," at which time I thanked him. That was the kind of police officer he was.
