Delighted to see the 'police support' signs springing up all over town. Brings to mind Officer Douglas, who, a few days prior to his murder, caught my attention with a shot behind my house. When I heard it and saw a police officer's cap jutting above my picket fence, I asked him what the problem was. Officer Douglas stated he spotted a rabid skunk digging under my fence in an effort to gain entry into my yard. I asked him if he shot him, to which he replied he did, and I thanked him. That was the kind of policeman that he was, always looking out for those he was charged to protect.
