Vladimir Putin can announce that he is going to do something with no intention of actually following through, or saying something but actually doing the opposite. Putin is a master of miscommunication and deceit. A destabilized Ukraine is what Russia needs as a buffer against Europe. A truce is just white noise in the long term strategy of controlling a key gas pipeline region next to the heart of Russia. The eastern region of Ukraine will remain a “Berlin Wall” of protection for Putin’s propaganda machine.
