Avalon - Summer is here and it's time for a favorite summer food for many people - steamed Chesapeake Bay blue crabs. If you like them, you should perhaps get them while you can. The annual bay-wide population survey shows that the crabs are at their lowest level in the survey's 33-year history. A main reason is the impact of global warming. Global warming is fueling stronger storms that send pollution-filled floodwaters into the bay. Extreme heat and those floodwaters destroy the underwater grasses which provide food and shelter for the crabs. Good-bye crabs and good-bye crabbing industry.
