Avalon - To the spouter wondering if rumble strips on the outside of the bike lanes would improve safety, perhaps let's start with getting pedestrians to use the sidewalk, instead of them taking up the entire bike lane, walking side-by-side or pushing baby strollers and forcing bicyclists into car traffic to avoid them. I think rumble strips would actually hurt safety because you can't fall off of your car on rough terrain, but you can be rumbled off of your bike.
