Avalon - Some people like to "Spout Off" because they are angry. Others might want to offer thanks, or congratulations to someone. The thumbs up/down is really irrelevant, and thankfully does not appear in the print edition. However, I am amazed at how many people take the time and effort to "thumbs down" to a spout offering nothing more than gratitude. Does that mean that these folks don't like gratitude, they don't like the people to whom the thanks are offered, or they don't like people spouting about gratitude? I find that sort of negative reaction to be a sign of ignorance, and pettiness.
