Avalon - The self-proclaimed Avalon intelligent high school spouter must not have done well in history. The Social Security Act was passed in 1935 and the first social security number issued in 1937. The first social security benefit check was issued in 1940. Not only was that well past the "Great Depression" but even after the recession of 1937. High school history books don't have all the facts. I am eligible to collect social security and I was raised by persons who grew up in the Depression. With the glut of unwarranted SSI payments and some great mismanagement, I may outlive what I am due.
