Avalon - Piping Plovers were part of my childhood, every spring the fiesty little peepers would return and wait at the end the path thru dunes to peep at me and my golden retriever. The laid their eggs in front of dunes in shells and tuffs grass. There was a pair every block. Later around Memorial day the little puff balls would be scurrying around the waters edge and hide under their moms wings back at nest. So one spring the new mayor from a big city, decided he wanted to groom the whole beach every day like a sand trap. Other beach towns followed, and that is why Piping Plovers are extinct there.
