Avalon - Let's say I'm your widget mechanic. Back in 2021 I charged you $200 for a basic widget replacement (BWR) and my costs (parts and labor) were $100. That means $100 profit for me but that's OK because I'm a good guy and I do good work. Now, due to inflation, my costs on a BWR have doubled to $200, so naturally I now charge you $400. Profit now $200 and the dollar still almost as valuable as 2019 (largely due to those Fed interest hikes I think). And you, somehow, defend me like crazy at the local bar! While I'm laughing all the way to the bank.
