Avalon - I hate to sound ungrateful, but although the massive invasion of Normandy was immensely important in the overall strategy to defeat Hitler, it was just one part of a years long drama. American GIs landed in North Africa and Sicily and Anzio and southern France all before the Normandy invasion. Many GIs had been in the fight for two years before. And, after the invasion, they battled across Europe to Germany, with the fight not ending until almost a year later. Let’s honor the heroes of DDay Normandy, but let’s not forget the guys who were first in the fight, nor the guys in the Pacific.
