Avalon - Graduated college (in four years) in 1971, owed $6,000 in college loans. First "real" job paid $6,000 a year or $500 a month. College loan payments were $68 a month for eight years. Car loan was $55. Rent was $135. Utilities were $50. Car insurance was $40. That left not much for food and recreation but I picked up a few dollars in odd jobs. Never thought about not paying my loan and after years of hard work I paid it off. Time of my life, learned a lot struggling to make ends meet. A character building experience. Today's college grads should stop whining and just do it.
