A measure in Congress would have barred such purchases, but the NRA opposed it, and it was defeated. An NRA spokesperson labeled this effort to protect the American people from terrorist attacks an attempt to "take advantage of public alarm" after attacks in Paris. This is how the NRA "protects" us - by making it easier for bad guys, including terror suspects, to get guns.
