Avalon - In April 1898, the U.S.S Maine blew up in Havana harbor. We may never know if it was an accident or not, but it led us to go to war with Spain. We soundly defeated Spain. In October 2000, al-Quaeda bombed the U.S.S Cole. Clinton sent the FBI to Yemen to investigate. 11 months later, we all knew what happened. Historically an attack on a U.S. warship was an act of war. No matter what Bush might have known in his six months in office before Sept. 11, do you really think it would have happened if the Marines took out al-Quaeda infrastructure 10 months earlier?
