What if the epidemic of gun violence in California was instead an epidemic of child pornography or identity theft or arson? Would we surrender to the pornographers or hackers or arsonists? Would we say there's no point in having laws against such crimes because they do not work? Of course not. We would say that we need stronger laws to combat those crimes. The same is true for guns and gun violence.
