Avalon / Stone Harbor - A SH spouter praised the proposed "pay-to-stay" for Avalon volunteer firefighters and suggested an even larger stipend. That spouter obviously doesn't read the spouts coming out of the Wildwoods concerning career firefighters and the related expense. Avalon and Stone Harbor are reaping the rewards for decades of escalating real estate costs. Millionaires don't want to be volunteer firemen. Ordinary middle-class people can't afford to live on the island unless they inherited a house or got a super deal. These towns might as well become gated communities with all contract services.
