Regardless of what someone commented, "The entire island is lit up with street lights ...," the law says, "Every bicycle when in use at nighttime shall be equipped with a lamp ... visible from a distance of at least 500 ft. to the front, and with a lamp on the rear which shall emit a red light visible from a distance of at least 500 ft. to the rear" (39:4-10).
