My Avalon summers date to charming cottages, fewer folks & flattened dunes. To Avalon’s credit, our dune restoration program is now a national model. Change should improve quality of life, not denigrate it. We once prided ourselves on not being crowded (Sea Isle) or commercial (Stone Harbor), touting a laid-back, family-friendly vibe instead. Now we seek to overdevelop our business district, cram up to 4 hotels into 13 blocks & erect 3-story monster Lego homes. The boutique hotel promoter ran & folded 2 hotels. One boutique hotel (not 4) could be nice, but will his mid-block enterprise thrive?
