In 2017 a human coronavirus NL63 outbreak in a Louisiana long term care facility resulted in 6 out of 20 infected patient hospitalized and 3/20 died. So yes good old fashioned human coronavirus typically encountered as “the common cold” resulted in fatalities in a vulnerable population. Healthy people get “the common cold”.
