A letter to the editor made the point that pensions and benefits cannot be eliminated or reduced at the state or local level. I concur. Strong unions and contractual obligations, and politicians who are are afraid of any cuts that would endanger their reelection. The way forward is consolidation of schools and perhaps a county police department, and shared services between municipalities. Remember, many said a county wide 911 dispatch would never happen. It is a resounding success.
