08/10/26: As per the article in The Herald on the small numbers of menhaden (bunker) this season in the Delaware Bay. Just like the late seventies, the weakfish population was depleted from overfishing and gill netters taking the females which should have been released and were not. To date, weakfish have not recovered. Menhaden are used for fish oil, animal feed, and fertilizer. They are also used for commercial and recreational bait. Hopefully, both species will recover someday. Time will tell.
