Ocean City - A Rio Grande spouter thinks that America is "becoming" diverse because of the Latino and Asian immigrants. We have been diverse since we were provinces of England, France and Spain. We spoke many languages as time went on and new immigrants arrived from Ireland, Germany and France. As the influx of Eastern European Jews came, we added Yiddish, Russian and Polish to our lexicon. The difference is that as much as each of these cultures struggled to maintain identity, they also strove to conform and learn English.
