Cape May - I witnessed a Cape May Beach Patrol boat riding waves recently at the Cove Beach and the lifeguard almost caused a catastrophic accident when he lost control in the surf zone. He not only lost all of his oars and never found the lost oars, but ran into an innocent surfer with a longboard. No apology at all, just walked up the beach, took a spare set of oars from the lifeguard box, and rowed back out. Inexperienced guards should not be riding waves in the recreational area.
