Cape May - During the public comment portion of a council meeting, a question was directed to the council by a Taxpayers Association officer regarding debt service. This is a reasonable question, since a discussion was held at the May 12, MTRAC meeting notably attend by both the Mayor and City Auditor. It was stated that $22 million is booked over the next 15 years. The mayor responded at the recent council meeting “in fact, our debt is lower over the last four years.” The Taxpayers’ Association needs to handle this response. This is a matter of transparency—Council, MTRAC and TPA.
