I watch a lot of old Westerns on TV and I see a lot of gun fire

Avalon - I watch a lot of old Westerns on TV and I see a lot of gun fire and numerous dead bodies BuT never see a dead horse from a Gun shot . Do horses have a super power ? Surely with all the bullets flying around in the old westerns horses must be getting hit with bullets. Can anyone explain?
