Wildwood / Mobile, Ala. - I'm a 69 year old gay man who grew up in Wildwood,(and miss living there). But I chose to leave in the early 80s after experiencing some homophobia. What seems to be missing from many debates(including this one) concerning gay orientation is the assumption that people choose to be gay. That's not true for me nor for any gay person I've ever met. Whenever presented with that question, I usually respond "when did you choose to be straight?" Just be kind to people.
