I cannot fathom the islands' two paid fire departments' justific

North Wildwood - I cannot fathom the islands' two paid fire departments' justification, when we have not seen an active fire in months, perhaps a few years. They try to keep busy to justify their jobs and they do hire part-timers to facilitate others taking vacations, etc. Soon they will be busy promoting good will, while on the clock, visiting schools with Santa and posing for photo ops. It must be nice, having a job like this. They get to write their own check and the taxpayers turn a blind eye. Does anyone else view this as a waste of money?
