Avalon - Why is Murray Wolf, 80, the lifeguard who runs the Avalon beaches like his private fiefdom, still on the job? Recently, a friend witnessed him whistle a couple of kids out of the 30th Street water because they were surfing too close to the pier. When challenged, he closed the surfing beach. When he was asked why not the swimmers, he closed the swimming beach too. Ocean conditions were calm. I was in the water up the beach.
