Avalon - I understand the need for traditional newspapers to install paywalls, so readers pay for content, but the Herald is advertiser supported, as reflected in its content. It is a free print publication. The percentage of advertising does not appear to have declined, so the paywall for digital content feels like a revenue grab, especially when the content is not ad-free.

Even though print advertising rates have not kept pace with inflation, we are glad to be able to offer our print publications without charge to our readers. Please say "thank you" to our advertisers at every opportunity. While digital advertising also helps support our digital media operations, it is insufficient to cover the associated expenses.
