Can somebody tell me why an older model black Taurus with no lic

Rio Grande / Wildwood Crest - Can somebody tell me why an older model black Taurus with no license plates has been parked in the Village Stores lot by ShopRite for a very long time? I reported it and was told the police can't do anything about it because it is parked on private property. Why can't the VIN be checked to locate the owner? So much for see something, say something. I guess it's not important enough for the police to get involved.
