Beesley's Point - Sheriff Nolan states that as a result of an endorsement in his election campaign, he has an adversarial relationship with the head of the union for the officers under his command. The mere idea he would make decisions impacting his staff members based upon who they may have supported in an election is wrong. The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution prohibits the government from punishing people based on the content of their speech. Sheriff Nolan, read the oath of office you took to support, defend and protect the Constitution, then go talk to the duly elected leader of your subordinates.
