Why do we spend money on facilities for dogs?

Wildwood - Why do we spend money on facilities for dogs? The way I see it is if one doesn't have a yard where their dog can run around and drop waste, then they shouldn't have a dog. Why should others have to pay for their dog's entertainment? I don't want to smell their dog's waste. I love dogs, but I lack the space required to have one, so I do without, yet, my front yard smells like I do from the disrespect of some dog owners.
