As a retiree who has given generously to many charities over the years, I receive many requests for donations from new ones every week. After confirming that they are a legitimate charity, I check to see what the CEO’s salary is. If it’s a million dollars or more, their letter goes in the wastebasket. You’d be surprised at what the executive salaries of some of the most heavily advertised, heart-string pulling charities are. I find giving to local charities and food banks is usually the way to go.
