Opinion! Mine of course, I was in one of the local Big Box stores, using self checkout for my single item purchase. I logged in my phone number and the screen did recognize my membership as well as my military status. Next the Checkout screen was Requiring that the barcode of my Driver’s license be scanned. I queried a store associate as to why my driver’s license barcode “It is required for Identification. I looked the associate and said “Nope” showed my Military ID, my VA ID and the front of my DL that states Veteran as well as the “Real ID Star”. The store was only interested in the information on the DL Barcode. Well needless to say I left the store without purchasing anything. I did purchase the item I needed at another store without any hassle. There the sales associate noticed my retired military cover I was wearing, thanked me for my service and discounted ten percent off the cost without me asking or needing to show any other I.D. at all. I thanked her for the support expressed. The Big Box (or any store) Is not a local, state, or federal agency and as such has no need to access the sensitive information contained in the Driver’s license barcode. The Military ID, the VA ID and the front of my DL that states Veteran as well as the “Real ID Star” are all valid forms of identification to show proof who you are. As for scanning my Driver’s license… well “Nope”. Nuff said…
