Navy leadership has decided that the future USS Doris Miller will not carry the World War II hero’s name once commissioned. The aircraft carrier, which was slated to be the first named for an African American. Doris Miller was a mess attendant aboard the USS West Virginia during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Denied the right to train on weapons because of his race, he grabbed an unmanned anti-aircraft gun and fired back at Japanese planes, then dragged wounded sailors to safety. Instead, the Navy will name the Ship after trump. What a travesty.
