Annual net interest payments on our federal debt are now over $1 trillion, so interest on that is now one of the largest of all federal budget expenses. That’s money we don’t spend on schools, healthcare, roads and bridges, or social safety nets. 70 percent of that debt is held by US mutual funds, pension funds, insurance companies, and banks. And - the richest 1% of US households hold about 35.6 percent of all financial assets. AND they have gotten massive tax breaks under Trump. Nice deal!
