The Wildwood Crest Beach Patrol deserves leadership that is connected to the guards doing the real work. A chief should be more than someone walking the beach and watching from the sidelines. The younger guards need leadership that understands their challenges, earns their respect and leads by example. The lieutenants, many of whom have become too old and out of touch with today’s guards, need to remember that experience only matters when paired with relevance. Leadership requires presence, accountability and, above all, moxie.
