In December 2024, Joe Biden signed a law that would cap overdraft fees at $5 — down from typically $35. It applied to banks with more than $10 billion in assets who were looking to make a quick buck off people living paycheck to paycheck. It cost taxpayers nothing. It cost the government nothing. There was no REASON to repeal it — but Trump did. Now, the biggest financial institutions are allowed to continue charging higher fees, which consumer groups estimate cost consumers roughly $5 BILLION per year. He doesn’t care.
