Fewer regular Council meetings mean fewer opportunities for residents to ask questions before decisions are made. Before reducing public access, the Mayor and Council should explain how this change improves government. If there isn’t enough public business to justify two meetings a month, perhaps there should also be fewer ribbon cuttings and photo opportunities. Our priorities are misplaced. And if the Mayor and Council are holding fewer public meetings, maybe their compensation should reflect that. Transparency means more opportunities for public participation, not fewer.
