The United States needs to accept the fact that China will take Taiwan soon and there is nothing we can or should do about it. When the Mutual Defense Treaty was signed with Taiwan in 1954 the world looked a lot different. There was no one on the planet that could come close to competing with the US in any way. It looked like it would be that way forever. Times change and there is a new world order. There is no way we can compete with China’s dominance of the Pacific. No possible way to defend Taiwan. Time to accept that and begin a negotiated realignment with China. It is what it is.
