US politics always ignored the financial shenanigans of those in power. Members of Congress from ANY party are allowed to buy and sell stocks. It’s not illegal, it was just lower-key in the past. Enter Trump, who is openly using the US presidency solely to massively increase his fortunes. He likely has not broken the law. But e has transformed the White House into a private business flying the Trump brand. He has swept norms totally aside, and supercharged a culture of unscrupulous greed. Is this what WE want our leader to represent? We need laws, not norms, to regulate elected officials.
