Building on barrier islands in the first place was asinine. Continuing to encourage and enable it is even worse. There should be no beach replenishment whatsoever and there should be no federal flood insurance. Why should taxpayers continue to fund the protection of properties built in a place nothing should have ever been built? Anyone that builds or lives on the islands or anywhere near water should not ask taxpayers to pay for their poor decision. Live there at your own risk and expense. So what if every home on every barrier island washes into the ocean.
